Hey Sis || Violet [wiltingviolet]

violetparrpine:

Jack-Jack had placed himself back down onto the floor again, the eight year old’s hands turning into monstrous claws as he tried to imitate what his sister had done with his own set of powers. “I wanna turn invisible,” he huffed, the little boy not at all pleased with himself even though he had far more powers than the rest of his family had combined. “I could mess with people at school and they wouldn’t even see!”

“Hush, Jack,” she told him, giving him a small nudge with her leg as she went back to focusing on her hands, mulling over the words that Dash had said. Of course the NSA would be on her ass every second of the day… But for a chance to get back onto the field again? Fighting alongside her family? That would be completely worth it.

“C-Can we?” she asked, looking back over at him, “All three of us? I’m sure J-Jack could use the h-help, too. It could b-be like some weird s-sibling bonding thing.”

Dash laughed at his little brother, watching him try to do the same thing. “Kiddo, I think it’s good that Vi is the only one who can,” he said. “I like my powers. You’ll figure out some day that you like yours.” He stirred all the ingredients in together and started stirring in the sauce.

"Sure we can," Dash said. "I mean, I don’t see why not. Wouldn’t it be good for you to get back out in the field anyway? Help with the healing process and all that?" He smiled when she mentioned that Jack-Jack could come with them. "How’s that sound, Jack-Jack? You okay with training with me?"

Hey Sis || Violet [wiltingviolet]

wiltingviolet:

Violet remained silent, looking down at her hands as her long hair gently fell over her face. All she could do for a few moments was stare at her fingers, the tingling sensation on her palms of reminder of the force field she had created after months of her powers being completely dormant. Biting on her lower lip she, carefully, focused her powers to her hands, watching as they slowly began to disappear. It was somewhat difficult for her, as she had once relied so much on that power enhancing bracelet her husband had once made for her, but surprisingly, she managed just fine.

“I can’t see em,” Jack soon commented, walking over to his sister as he stared down at her non-existent hands as he continued to float in the air. “I like when you do that.”

Violet smiled, breaking her focus as she looked back at him, her hands reappearing once more. “Thanks,” she said softly, turning back to look over at Dash. “D-Do you think I’ll be able to work on the field again? With you g-guys?” she asked him, tilting her head to the side. “B-be honest. I want t-to know what you think.”

Dash watched Jack Jack for a moment before he grabbed the pot of noodles and drained them in the sink. He smiled when his little brother spoke, knowing it would probably make Violet happy. Jack Jack was such a cute little kid; anyone would smile when he complimented them.

"Ah, uh," Dash said, looking up from what he was doing. "Maybe, yeah. I mean, the NSA might wanna check up on you. And you’ll need to train to get your powers back up to par, but…yeah I don’t see why not, Vi." He was being honest. And she would be a good addition to their team. The Incredibles, all together again. He never thought he’d live to see the day.

"How about me and you train this weekend a little?" Dash asked, now straining the meat. "Get you back into shape for fighting?"

Hey Sis || Violet [wiltingviolet]

wiltingviolet:

Violet couldn’t help but laugh at Dash’s little comment, another sigh escaping her throat as she continued to look down at her feet. “I d-didn’t even know you had a girlfriend,” she admitted, realizing then just how much she had missed out on her family and what had been going on with them over the years. Dash was in high school, Jack-Jack was almost seven years old. It was like an entire lifetime had gone by in her absence, and the mere thought of it made her shake her head in disgust with herself.

Just then, her youngest brother came into the kitchen, the little boy hopping up and down as he approached the stove. “What’s for dinner?” he asked curiously, his hand reaching forward to touch the boiling pot.

Instinctively, Violet looked up, her hand shooting outward as she created a force field in front of Jack-Jack, separating him from the hot stove. “Jack! D-Don’t do that,” she huffed, shaking her head, “You know b-better than that! Go b-back in the living room and play with your toys.”

Giggling to himself, the little boy looked back at his sister, his hand then focusing on the purple wall in front of him, his palm pressing up against it. “Mommy said that you wouldn’t be able to use your powers anymore,” he smiled before casually floating up into the air, doing little flips as he eyes hid oldest sibling. “Guess Uncle Buddy didn’t take everything away from you after all, huh?”

Blinking, Vi immediately dropped her shield, her gaze focusing down on her hands. “…Heh..” she coughed, smallest of smiles appearing on her lips. It had been months since she had been able to project a force field… This was definitely progress. “I g-guess he didn’t..”

"Ah, that’s ‘cause she’s new. I dunno. I don’t like her much anymore. It was more fun chasin’ her than it is havin’ her," Dash said, scratching at the back of his neck as he heard the pitter patter of little feet. He grinned at Jack Jack as the younger boy came in and sat down at the counter.

He instinctively reached out to stop his little brother from touching the pot, but Violet beat him to it and he stared at the force field. He’d seen it many times over the years from her using it against him in petty fights, but he hadn’t seen it in a long time. And he’d thought she wouldn’t be able to use her powers without Vis coming out.

"Great job, sis," he said, giving her a big smile. He was proud of her.

Hey Sis || Violet [wiltingviolet]

wiltingviolet:

Violet froze as her brother hugged her, as she still wasn’t all used to physical human contact just yet, despite her mental growth in the past few weeks. All she could do was stand there, her teeth biting down on her cheek as her eyes remained focused forward, her breath hitching in her chest. It’s just your brother, it’s fine, he isn’t going to hurt you. “At least w-we were normal in the S-Super world… I-I’m the one who isn’t n-normal in any aspect of the word…” Sighing, she forced her arms to wrap around Dash for a few moments, Vi realizing just how tall he had grown before quickly removing herself from him and moving back over to lean up against the wall.

“I m-missed you guys, t-too. I’m sorry for scaring everyone… I j-just didn’t know what to do, y’know?” she explained to him, looking down at her fingernails. “I was stuck in this c-completely other world, and I just c-couldn’t mentally get myself out of it. It’s so st-stupid,” she sighed. “You’re constantly t-told how much your loved and that n-nothing will bring us apart. The next thing y-you know, you’re left alone, no where to t-turn. And then you b-being dragged out by the authorities. Y-you sit and w-wait around, expecting you ‘Prince’ to rescue you, and it n-never happens. Your p-previous life was all a lie…”

Blinking, she looked back over at her brother. “S-sorry… Rambling… You probably don’t want to hear about any of this.”

Dash pulled away from her after a moment; he knew she probably wasn’t okay with physical contact and he’d probably just broken her trust a little. Not that he had a lot to begin with in the first place. “Vi, you gotta stop doin’ that,” he sighed. “You’ve just got a medical condition. ‘S not our fault none of us know how to handle it.”

He watched her as she leaned against the wall before turning back to stir the noodles and the meat. He listened as she rambled on and on, knowing she probably needed it. It was important that she feel like she could talk to one of them, and he was glad it was him because his dad would probably say something stupid.

"Nah, Vi, it’s okay," Dash said, turning around. "Really. I don’t mind. It’s better than hearing about my girlfriend’s daily troubles. Who cares if she broke a nail, am I right?" He was trying to get her to smile.

Hey Sis || Violet [wiltingviolet]

wiltingviolet:

“I d-don’t know what I want, either,” she admitted, keeping her body leaned up against the wall as she looked down at her feet, her fingers running along her sleeves, “I j-just wish it had n-never happened, y’know? I-I mean… I w-went crazy b-before I knew… Him…” she said, refusing to speak his name, “B-But I would have b-been able to get help f-faster had I stayed home.” She felt uncomfortable then, talking about this with someone other than her therapist. It was hard for her to admit to her instability, the fact that she had developed Invisigirl months before even meeting her husband difficult for her to actually vocalize. It was strange to accept that her insanity began solely because of her, not because some mad man had created it. Yes, he had made it worse for her, made her weak mind all the more deranged; but she was the one that had begun it all, and it wasn’t the best thing to think about.

Shrugging, she shoved herself off the wall to grab the box of pasta, her small hands carefully pouring them into the boiling pot of water. “I-I mean, even if I get completely b-better, it’s never going to b-be the same,” she continued, pouring some salt into the water so the pasta wouldn’t stick together. A little trick her mother had taught her. “All of you are g-going to watch my ever move. The NSA wouldn’t d-dare have me g-go on the field again. My arms and legs always h-have to be covered..” she huffed, rolling her eyes in frustration as she slammed the salt shaker onto the counter, “And this d-damn st-stutter!” she cried out, turning around to face her brother again.

“D-do you know how hard it is to know that every t-time you open your m-mouth, the way you t-talk is a constant reminder of the t-terrifying life you lived f-for years?!” she cried out, Violet burying her face in her hands to calm herself in order not to scare Jack-Jack. “N-nothing will ever be n-normal again, Dash. No matter how much you t-try…”

Dash carefully took the meat out of the package and started putting it into the skillet, listening to her talk. He hadn’t known that Vis wasn’t due to Buddy Pine, the man that had taken his sister away from them. He’d just assumed…but then again, he knew what always happened when people assumed things.

He glanced at her as she started putting the pasta into the boiling water, and reached around her to grab a spatula. He was surprised she was even talking to him about this. He knew his sister was private, even more so now that the whole Buddy thing had happened. But he’d take it as long as she was willing to talk to him. He just wanted her to know he was here for her.

Dash would have jumped when she slammed the salt down, but he’d heard more aggressive things from her when they were younger and didn’t even flinch. He turned to her slowly, setting the spatula down and looking at her while she talked. “Nah, you’re right,” he said. “Nothin’s gonna be normal. That’s life, Vi. I mean, really, have we ever been normal?” He gave her a look before pulling her into a hug. “All I know is that I missed you and Jack Jack missed you, so just remember that your two brothers love you and want you around.”

Hey Sis || Violet [wiltingviolet]

wiltingviolet:

“Y-Yeah, that’s fine,” she nodded her head, moving to lean up against the entryway of the kitchen as she watched Jack-Jack begin to play in the living room. She made sure to keep a watchful eye on him as she continued to talk to Dash, her hands continuing to mess with her sleeves. “And it d-depends on the sauce, I guess,” she shrugged, “If you’re using w-white, I want whole grain. If it’s red, then the usual stuff.”

Figuring that Jack was okay on his own, Violet moved to gather up some pots for her brother to use, filling up a large one with water before placing it onto the stove to boil, doing her best to keep her mind occupied. She knew that he was only trying to be nice with her, keeping their conversation simple and as normal as possible, but it was obvious as to what he was doing. She appreciated the gesture, but it was somewhat annoying. “Yeah, we can d-do that,” she said before standing up straight, her hair falling into her face. “You d-don’t have to talk to me like nothing h-hasn’t happened, Dash. You’re r-really horrible at faking things.”

Dash made a face, pulling out red sauce and regular pasta. “I’m just trying, Vi,” he said, turning around. He noticed she had gotten the pots already. “Ah, thanks.” He set down the ingredients and grabbed a skillet to cook the meat in. “I don’t—I don’t know what exactly you want from us, so I’m giving you normal. I mean. Do you wanna talk about anything? Not therapist-like, just…sibling stuff. Like…I dunno, Vi, I don’t know what you want from me.”

He was only fifteen, he didn’t know how to handle her, or her psychotic tendencies. He knew to be patient with her, so he kept his voice calm and even. “You wanna cook the pasta?” He wanted to involve her since she thought he was a bad cook.

Hey Sis || Violet [wiltingviolet]

wiltingviolet:

“You have n-nothing to worry about, I’m fine,” she spoke, her annoyance obvious by the tone of her voice, “And Dad has nothing to worry about, either. I’ve been d-doing better, alright?” she huffed.

As Jack-Jack finally won the game, Violet gave him a little high five before placing the game back into it’s box and standing up from the floor. She had forgotten that it was Dash’s turn to cook, and while it was nice that she didn’t have to do it that night, she really never trusted her brother’s culinary skills. “Something you aren’t g-going to burn,” she commented, heading into the kitchen as her fingers fiddled with the sleeves of her shirt, making sure they were covering her arms. “Pasta sounds good.”

Dash laughed. “Don’t worry. I was planning on spaghetti, is that all right?” He peered into the fridge, where they had some ground beef thawing. He pulled it out and set it on the counter, heading for the cupboard to get some pasta. “You want the whole grain stuff Mom bought or the regular stuff?” He knew she was annoyed with all of them watching her so close. He just wanted to make sure she was all right. He wasn’t worried about her hurting any of them; they were Supers, they could handle themselves. He was more just worried about his only sister’s frame of mind.

"So I was planning on going to rent a movie later if you wanted to come with me," he said as he looked through the cupboard for an appropriate side dish. "I’ve been wanting to see that new action movie everyone’s talking about." Dash knew that Violet just wanted to be treated like everything was normal, so he tried his hardest to give her that.
